The mural painting festival
...in Gdańsk, of which I have been a participant for three years, has considerably influenced my works, mainly by its social themes. The annual painting takes place by the multi-level intersection of the main streets of the city. The place possesses an industrial character. Trams, full of people engrossed in their problems, are constantly going past the artists. Shipyard workers are going to work. Cars are speeding over the heads of the artists, who sit on the scaffoldings by the great pillars and try to change the image of the city. Some people stop to have a talk with the painters or to ask them to paint some flowers. I like to intervene in public space - the city seems to me more humane if people paint its walls and create their own environment. Wall painting is a challenge to me. I can sit hours on the scaffolding, concentrating on every detail, trying to paint them with precision, with the use of a ruler if necessary. Afterwards, while going by tram, as an anonymous spectator I can hear comments of other passengers on my works. The wall painting involves open space, and is not a gallery for the chosen ones www.culture.pl
